TouchGrass hit #1 on Product Hunt

TouchGrass launched on Product Hunt on July 26 and hit #1 Product of the Day.

I did not expect this. TouchGrass is a simple break reminder for macOS. It does not have AI features, it does not sync to the cloud, and it does not have a team plan. It just reminds you to take breaks at the right time.

But I think that simplicity is exactly why people responded to it.

The comments and messages we received had a common theme. People were tired of break apps that interrupt meetings, require Accessibility permissions, or ignore the fact that stepping away from the Mac already counts as a break. They wanted something that understood context instead of blindly firing on a timer.

That is what TouchGrass does. It pauses during meetings and media playback. It counts idle time as a completed break. It detects typing strain and reminds you to rest your wrists. And it does all of this without asking for Accessibility access.

A few things I learned from this launch:

First, people care about privacy more than features. The fact that everything runs locally, with no analytics and no cloud sync, came up in nearly every conversation. Privacy is not a checkbox feature. It is a philosophy that people can feel.

Second, the no Accessibility permission requirement resonated strongly with Mac users. Most break apps need full system access to monitor activity. TouchGrass does not. That single decision turned out to be one of the strongest selling points.

Third, showing the product works better than describing it. Our landing page leads with video demonstrations of the app in action. No feature grids, no marketing buzzwords. Just the product doing what it does. People responded to that authenticity.

What is next: we are working on the Mac App Store submission, refining the break screen experience, and adding a few quality of life improvements based on feedback from early users.

Thank you to everyone who upvoted, commented, and tried the app. This is just the beginning.
